About

Jon P. Thomas has practiced law since 2002, representing individuals, families, business owners, and property investors. Licensed in Texas and the District of Columbia, he brings experience in criminal defense and civil litigation to a practice that also encompasses business law, real estate matters, and estate planning.

Jon began his career working with firms handling criminal defense and civil litigation before establishing his own criminal defense practice in Houston. He represented clients in Texas state and federal courts, handling cases at trial, on appeal, and in post-conviction proceedings, including appellate oral argument. His habeas corpus work has included obtaining relief from convictions based on actual innocence and ineffective assistance of counsel.

Today, Jon helps business owners establish and manage closely held companies, negotiate commercial agreements, resolve ownership disputes, and plan for transitions. His experience includes forming LLCs and professional entities, preparing operating agreements and bylaws, addressing corporate recordkeeping and compliance issues, and serving as outside counsel to businesses operating in Texas and Washington, DC.

His real estate practice includes advising property investors on ownership structures, leasing, and regulatory compliance, as well as representing landlords and tenants in contested proceedings. He is also a licensed real estate agent in the District of Columbia.

Jon’s estate planning work connects clients’ personal, business, and property interests. He prepares wills, revocable trusts, powers of attorney, and healthcare directives; coordinates business succession arrangements; and guides executors, personal representatives, and trustees through estate and trust administration.

Across these areas, Jon emphasizes clear advice, careful preparation, and personal attention. His litigation experience informs both how he approaches disputes and how he helps clients anticipate problems when structuring a business, managing property, or planning for the future.
